Alex Moon
Hi there!
Hello! My name is Alex Moon and I'm a graduate student studying algebraic combinatorics at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. I do most of my research with Pamela E. Harris (full list of collaborators can be found on my publications page). I completed my undergrad at UW - Madison in May 2022 and I will receive my master's degree from UW - Milwaukee in a few weeks.

Research
My most recent work focuses on enumerating certain classes of parking functions. A component of this was recently published in the Journal of Integer Sequences under the title "On Some Discrete Statistics of Parking Functions". Another component is available as a pre-print under the title "Defective Parking Functions and Young Tableaux". As an undergraduate, I did some research with Sigurd Angenent on using topological techniques to investigate singularities in curve shortening flow, which is published in the journal Nonlinearity under the title "Which Shapes can Appear in a Curve Shortening Flow Singularity?".
Where to find me
My office is in room E499 of the Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (EMS) building at UW - Milwaukee. My office hours are 5:15-6:00 PM Monday - Thursday or by appointment. Feel free to reach out to me at alexander(dot)(lastname)144@gmail.com.
In January you could find me presenting with Beth Anne Castellano at the 2025 JMM.
Enjoying the January heat in Seattle.

You can find my CV here and my website here. Titles, links, and abstracts for my published work and preprints can be found on my research page.
a little more about me
In my free time you'll find me practicing piano, running, or playing chess. I've also spent time learning just enough Mandarin to embarrass myself. When I need something to look forward to, I like to plan one-day dawn-dusk trips to interesting landmarks or to plan a piano recital.
